Linux CentOS

Linux CentOS is installed on all of the servers on the Livestate Network. CentOS is an enterprise level Linux distribution that is open source and supported by a small team of developers and an ever growing community of professionals and Linux enthusiasts from all over the world. At this stage Livestate only offers Linux based server solutions and does not provide Windows Hosting packages.

Apache Server

Linux based hosting platforms generally all have the same thing in common. Apache is installed as the web server. Apache is so prolific that as of May 2010 approximately 54% of servers were running Apache, which is more than double that of their closest competitor, Microsoft.

PHP 5

PHP is perhaps the most widely used server side scripting language in the world. Its uses are myriad and diverse and it powers websites from small scale dynamic sites to enterprise level sites such as Facebook. As far as Livestate is concerned PHP is not an optional extra, it's a standard. As such PHP is included as an integral feature of all our hosting packages.

MySQL 5

MySQL is a database application that is extremely popular amongst developers and is closely tied in with PHP. MySQL5 is included as a standard feature of all our hosting plans; however the quantity of databases is determined by the plan selected. Clients can request additional MySQL databases if they require them.

cPanel 11

The engine that drives our hosted sites is cPanel 11, a recognised name and industry leader in web hosting control panels. cPanel provides a graphical user interface to simplify the process of managing websites. Within cPanel clients manage their email accounts, databases, password protect directories and much more. Tutorials on using cPanel are included in our tutorials section.

Parked Domains

Additional domains can be parked on a clients account, or on the Livestate Network for future use. A Parked Domain is a domain that has no hosting account associated with it. Each of the hosting plans offered include a 50 Parked Domain limit, which clients can lift if required.

Addon Domains

An add-on domain is a domain that is attached to a current account, but acts as it own sub-account. As such it has its own cPanel, its own content and MySQL databases. Quotas are fed to the add-on domain from the primary domain, so attaching an add-on domain to an account does not increase the quotas.

Sub Domains

A sub-domain is an extension of the primary domain that allows a website to be sectioned off. An example of a sub-domain might be support.yourdomain.com.au. Sub domains allow developers to restrict content to specific areas of the platform that may not directly relate to another section. All Livestate hosting plans are supplied with unlimited sub domains.

System Security

Security is a critical area of managing websites, and security functions are implemented at various levels. At the server level security measures are implemented such as Brute Force Protection, PHP security measures and scanning the system regularly for intrusion and infection. On an account level clients can password protect and restrict access to directories and install SSL certificates.

Fantastico/Softaculous Scripts

Fantastico and Softaculous offer our clients a range of almost 200 pre-configured scripts, including Wordpress, Magento, Coppermine, Drupal, Joomla and Mambo to name a few. With 1-click installs Fantastico and Softaculous do all the hard work for you!

Statistics

Logs and statistics programs are included with all hosting packages and allow a client to view simple to detailed information on the traffic visiting their site. For selected hosting plans Livestate can assist and even setup Google Analytics to be incorporated into clients web pages.

System Backups

Across all of our servers backups are performed on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. Clients also have access to backup their site within cPanel, and can automate the task of backups by implementing a Cron task and PHP backup script. Talk to us about automating backups if you're unsure how to manage this.

POP3 Email Accounts

Email accounts are the primary form of communication over the internet and each hosting plan that Livestate offers affords a quantity of POP3 email boxes that clients can utilise. Once an email account has been setup it can then be linked to client software such as Outlook or Eudora, or forwarded to another destination. Clients can request additional POP3 email boxes if they require them.

Email Forwarding

Configured in cPanel, email forwarding is where an email account is created such as you@yourdomain.com.au and a forwarder is linked to the account which will send all emails received to another destination such as Hotmail or Gmail. Forwarders can also be setup as domain forwarders, forwarding on all email sent to a domain.

Email Auto-responders

As the name implies auto-responders are automatically issued responses that are sent to an email address when an email is received at the mail server. Auto-responders are an excellent method of replying to an enquiry without needing to manually create a response. Clients can determine their own responses and via cPanel, link it to their email accounts.

Mailing Lists

If you need to send emails to multiple recipients at once then PHPList, a free included script with Fantastico will let you do just that. Once PHPList has been installed and setup, mailing lists can be created, templates created and emails can then be issued to all recipients on a given list. List recipients have the option to unsubscribe from lists without needing to manually remove email destinations.

Dedicated IP

The Excel tier of hosting plans incorporate a dedicated IP address per account which is setup soon after the account has been created. For clients hosting under the Exist and Expose tiers we provide the option to purchase a dedicated IP. Dedicated IP addresses are required if a client wishes to install a SSL certificate.

Scalability

With the offering of the 9 hosting plans Livestate has available comes the ability for clients to start small and scale larger as they grow. Similarly clients can scale downwards if they find the higher end plans to be excessive for their requirements. Bandwidth Overflow is a feature of all the hosting tiers, a percentage above the plans bandwidth limit that clients can exceed into without any additional fees.

Assisted Setup

A feature of all of our hosting plans, Assisted Setup is Livestate and the client working together to setup and configure a hosting account to the client's needs. This service is provided as a courtesy as we understand that not all of our clients possess the technical knowhow to setup their platform, or may simply need some basic assistance getting their site online.

Joint Management

A feature of the Excel tier of hosting plans, Joint Management is similar to Assisted Setup but on a continuing basis. As required clients can open Management Tickets to Livestate requesting modifications to various areas of cPanel. Just consider us your IT pit crew!
